We are looking to build our team with an assistant innkeeper who can share our vision and participate with us in building this property to become recognized as one of the top Country Inn B&Bs in the United States. We have provided you with a lot of information about this position in this posting, and would appreciate it you would read it and make sure this position is a good fit for you before applying.About You -You are a self-motivated, hard-working and highly flexible person who is looking for a full-time, year-round assistant innkeeper position. You have worked for 2 years or more in a B&B or other guest services oriented job. You really enjoy interacting with people, and helping them have a great time while they are on vacation is a passion for you. You also get along well with other team members, such as the head innkeeper, housekeeping and kitchen staff. You see the opportunity to work and learn in a top B&B as the next step in your hospitality career.Position Responsibilities: Innkeeping is one of the most wide-ranging jobs in terms of the activities you will perform. You will carry out a wide variety of both management and guest services responsibilities, the mix of which will vary according to what is happening each day at the Inn. During busy times the head innkeeper and/or owner will be on duty with you, but you will also be expected to be able to manage on your own when the Inn is less busy. Here are the basic responsibilities you should be capable of fulfilling:Front Desk Services: Guest check-in and check-out. Answering phone and walk-in inquiries. Selling reservations. Personal interaction with the Inn guests. Greeting them as they come in and out of the Inn, assisting them with recommendations on places to go, places to eat, reservations and any other needs that they may have. Cooking breakfast. You should be comfortable making a variety of egg dishes, pancakes, waffles and simple baked goods, such as cookies and muffins for up to 8 guests. If you are a trained breakfast cook and can handle a full breakfast service for up to 40 guests, we can structure this position to include more cooking responsibilities. If another chef is preparing breakfast, you may assist with serving and interacting with the guests during the meal service. Conducting a review of the appearance, functioning and cleanliness of the Inn's public spaces, guest rooms, grounds and ensuring that any needed corrective actions are taken. When you are at the Inn on your own, managing any issues that may arise with guests or the property, and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken. Because each person has a unique blend of talents and interests, we will work with you to structure your job so that your other responsibilities are a good fit for you. Here are some examples of other responsibilities that may be part of your job: Depending on your work schedule and cooking abilities, you may help with the dinner service during the busy season, when there will be a chef to prepare the meals and there are also wait staff and kitchen help. If you are a chef, we can consider additional meal preparation responsibilities. Depending on your abilities and interests, you may help with gardening, pool and other sorts of building and site maintenance. You may also participate with developing marketing, website and business development campaigns, depending on your interests and skills.Other Elements of this Position: This is a salaried position. Your exact work hours and schedule will vary significantly, depending on the needs of the business and time of the year. We are open for guests year-round, with the exception of Christmas week, when the Inn is closed. The "Season," (summer and fall foliage seasons, July-August, and mid-September-October), approaches full occupancy and, frankly, we all work pretty flat out on delivering guest services and meals during these times. You may be asked to put in extra hours and we do not normally schedule vacation time during these periods. Other times of the year are not as busy with Inn guests, and will reward you with more flexibility in managing your time during the week as well as time off. During the off-season we work on various projects to maintain and upgrade the property, as well as develop new marketing materials, expand the website and do business development. We also schedule and host our own special events, such as holiday celebrations, cooking classes, art showings, etc. You will participate in these activities.Hours will vary depending on how busy the Inn is, whether you are involved with meal service, whether you select the live-in option and other factors. Your work week will normally be Saturday - Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday off. Compensation is competitive, including a health insurance benefit and 3 weeks paid vacation (increasing to 4 after 2 years). You will have the opportunity to earn a performance-based bonus. There is an option with this job to live on premises. If you are interested in the live-in option, you will be living in a cozy, 2-room suite on the main floor of the Inn -- right in the middle of the action. In this option, you will be responsible as the first line of support should any issues arise at the inn overnight. You will also have kitchen privileges. The Inn is a completely pet-free, no-smoking environment.The successful candidate's resume and references will reflect proven capabilities in these areas. A college degree is a plus, but not required if the candidate has 5 or more years of a proven track record in a related position.
